Prospective Students

What is QUADS?

The Quinnipiac University Advancing Diversity in Science (QUADS) program is designed to engage Connecticut high school students in developing science skills and knowledge through a place-based science education experience. This experience will take place at your high school and at Quinnipiac University (QU) throughout the academic year as well as a weeklong on-campus summer session. QUADS is supported by a grant from the Connecticut Collegiate Awareness and Preparation Program (ConnCAP), Office of Higher Education, and Quinnipiac University. QUADS students will become part of a 3-year program designed to provided college readiness and life skills as part of a community that includes science teachers from 5 Connecticut high schools, QU students, and QU faculty. QUADS students will be mentored and challenged to engage in an inquiry/design cycle to make sense of the community phenomenon and/or develop a solution for the identified community problem. QUADS students gain advance learning experiences valuable in the college application process. QUADS students will be empowered to use their voice to enact change in their community.

What's involved?

During the school year, students will spend, on average, 1 hour per week with their QUADS Pod.

The Summer Experience will be at the Quinnipiac University campus, at the end of June, after school is dismissed for the year. Daily transportation will be offered as part of this 5-day campus immersion experience.

Does it cost anything?

Totally free for students and families. In fact, there is an opportunity to earn college credit over three years in the program, which means you can save money in the long-run!

Who should apply?

NINTH GRADE students who think about these types of questions should join QUADS.

  • Do you see things in your school or community you would like to learn about and/or change?

  • Do you want to belong to a community of your friends, mentors from QU, and teachers from your school?

  • Would you like to belong to a community where you can learn strategies for success in high school and learn?

  • Would you and your family enjoy events like QU Men’s Basketball games, Family Events at your School and at QU?
